Lhar Santiago: “Hindi po madaling tanggapin na yung sparring partner ko ay di ko na makakasama.”
LHAR SANTIAGO – The GMA entertainment reporter opened up some of his fondest moments with late veteran showbiz reporter Mario Dumaual.
It was last July 5, 2023 when Dumaual family announced that the late veteran showbiz reporter passed away. According to the family, “septic shock” was the cause of Mario’s death.
Lhar paid tribute to Mario at the Loyola Memorial Chapels Commonwealth and also shared some of their fondest memories together.
According to him, his first encounter with Mario was back in 1987 when he was still working with TV Patrol. He added that their communication never ended despite that he transferred to another network, as they kept seeing each other in tons of coverage through the years.
Lhar shared that when he got hospitalized last year, Mario was there to remind him to take maintenance medicine and not just food supplements. He added that he also advised Mario to have his body checked but the latter didn’t heed his advice.

The GMA entertainment reporter admitted that it was difficult for him to let his “sparring partner” go. However, he assured that his friendship with the late veteran showbiz reporter has been etched in his heart.
Lhar promised that he will always be there for Mario’s family.
“Yung pamilya po ni Mario ay itinuturing ko nang pamilya ko rin,” Lhar said in his speech. “Ang isang ipinangako ko lang kahit hindi narinig ni Mario, I will always be there for his family.”
