Mark Ken Mariscal, a former contestant of Tawag ng Tanghalan killed in a hit-and-run
MARK KEN MARISCAL – A former contestant of the Tawag ng Tanghalan tragically lost his life on July 9, 2023, in a hit-and-run accident on Cabantian Road in Davao City.
Mariscal, 28, who was heading towards Barangay Idangan, decided to take a brief restroom break. While attempting to dismount from his motorcycle, Mariscal unexpectedly lost his balance and fell. Tragically, a speeding white vehicle failed to stop and collided with Mariscal as he struggled to stand. Shockingly, the driver of the vehicle chose to flee the scene instead of checking on Mariscal’s condition.
Emergency services were contacted, and Mariscal was swiftly transported to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Despite the efforts of the medical staff, they were unable to save him.
The news of Mariscal’s passing was deeply saddening for his family, who expressed their grief in a statement, acknowledging the overwhelming support and messages of comfort they have received from loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by Mariscal’s kind spirit.
“It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Mark Ken Mariscal, announce the passing of our dear son. It is so sudden that we are still in the process of accepting the fact that we can no longer be with him. To the families, friends, colleagues, and to all who have been part of Ken’s journey in this world and maybe touched by his kind soul, we can’t thank you enough for the messages of comfort and no words can express how grateful we are,” the family noted in a statement.
The authorities are currently examining CCTV footage to identify the white vehicle and its driver, in an effort to locate the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run incident. Mariscal participated in the Tawag ng Tanghalan in 2018, representing Mindanao.
