SENIOR CITIZEN PUSHER? – A 63-year-old woman was arrested by the authorities after being seized with over ₱2.8 million worth of illegal drugs in Quezon early Sunday morning.

According to Quezon Police Provincial Director Col. Ledon Monte, the suspect was identified as Julieta Maruhom, a resident of Netherlands Street, University Site Village, Barangay Ibabang Dupay in Lucena City.

The suspect was apprehended after allegedly selling 139 grams of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer in the aforementioned area at around 1:58 am. The police confiscated illegal drugs with a total value of ₱2,835,600.00.

The arresting officers explained that Maruhom is considered a high-value individual (HVI) who has been under surveillance in Lucena City for a long time. The police are now preparing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 against the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 in the Philippines addresses illegal drug activities and covers various violations. Offenses include the possession, sale, manufacturing, importation, and financing of illegal drugs. Possession of dangerous drugs, regardless of quantity, is prohibited, including narcotics and hallucinogens. Selling or distributing drugs to others is strictly forbidden.

Manufacturing or cultivating illegal drugs is also prohibited. Importing or exporting drugs without proper authorization is an offense. Maintaining establishments like drug dens or places for drug-related activities is illegal. Providing financial assistance for drug activities is a violation.
