GMA Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes on Alden Richards: “Parang nakita ko agad ‘yung depth niya as an actor”
ANNETTE GOZON-VALDES – The senior vice president of GMA looked back at the time when she saw Alden Richards’ potential.
Atty. Annette, who is also the president of GMA Films, is set to join the panel of judges in the upcoming competition, “Battle of the Judges,” which will air on GMA Network starting Saturday, July 15, 2023.
The senior vice president of GMA appeared on Monday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda”.
In an interview with the King of Talk, Atty. Annette looked back at the time when she fought hard for Alden to be part of the pool of artists of GMA Network.
She also shared that she still remembers when the management of GMA Network was sourcing new talents a few years back – and Alden Richards was one of the choices.
“May picture pa ako nun eh, ‘yung panel screening sa conference room lang tapos votation ‘yun,” she recalled. “Tapos paglabas, hindi siya kasama, sabi ko ‘Bakit? Eh mataas siya, siya ‘yung number one ko.“
According to the president of GMA Films, she convinced the team to take a chance on Alden Richards. She also said that she described Alden as “parang John Lloyd [Cruz] ‘yan eh” at that time.
Atty. Annette added that she likes Alden’s voice quality and she also saw his potential as an actor immediately.
In the same episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda”, Alden Richards dedicated a recorded message to the president of GMA Films, thanking her for her trust in all projects that he has done so far in GMA.
The Sparkle star, who is starring in an upcoming movie titled “A Mother and Son’s Story” with Megastar Sharon Cuneta, said that he’s grateful to her because she’s the one who discovered him during his first stages in GMA.
“I’m proud to say that I’m very grateful po sa inyo in particular kasi kayo po ‘yung naka-discover sa ‘kin during my first stages here in GMA,” Alden said. “I don’t know what you saw in me, but pinanghawakan ko po ‘yun, that’s my motivation to keep going.”
