Iza Calzado Shares Story Behind Deia Amihan’s Name

Iza Calzado: “In Mallorca (Spain), I posted a picture and captioned it, ‘Deia, you’re so stunning.’”

IZA CALZADO — The actress and celebrity mom recently shared the story behind the name of her first child, Deia Amihan.

It was last January 2023 when Iza Calzado and her husband, British businessman Ben Wintle, welcomed their first child and named their daughter. For her, choosing what to name her child was not an easy decision to make.

Iza said in an interview with Inquirer Entertainment that she and her husband went on a trip to Mallorca in Spain before she announced her pregnancy.

She then posted a photo at that time and captioned it, “Deia, you’re so stunning.” According to her, her friend commented “If I had a baby girl, I would also name her Deia” on her post and that made her look at what it meant.

Iza shared that the word “Deia” is a Latin word that means “goddess of joy”, adding that the word resonated with her because her child is bringing her so much joy at the moment and she’s like a goddess to her.

The actress also said that it was harder for her to pick her child’s second name at that time.

She shared that she had several choices for the second name and among those choices is “Tala” because the very first name that she wanted for her child “is something meaningful” to her.

Tala was the name of a role I played as a baby in the TV show ‘Ora Engkantada.’ Janice de Belen was my mom. I said that if it was just Deia, parang bitin,” she said.

According to the actress, the name “Amihan” is special to her because it’s the character she played in the original version of the Kapuso fantasy series “Engkantadia”.

Iza then recalled a touching experience in 2020 when she successfully battled COVID-19. According to her, there was a nurse who was about to take her blood test when she was in the ICU at that time.

I asked her, ‘Mamamatay na ba ako?’ She said, ‘Di ka mamatay. Lalaban ka, kasi ikaw si Sangre Amihan,’” she said, adding that God blessed her with her life and another with her child.
