FAKE PHONES SELLER – A Chinese national has been arrested by the Angeles City Police on Tuesday, June 20 for his alleged involvement in selling fake smartphones in the city.

The apprehended Chinese national was identified as Zeng Yunshi, who is temporarily residing in Metro Manila, according to Police Regional Office 3 Director Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. Yunshi was arrested during an entrapment operation conducted by Angeles City Station 3 in front of Jaoville Compound, Brgy. Pandan, Angeles City for estafa (fraud).

Investigation revealed that a certain individual named “Rachell” purchased a new iPhone 14 Pro Max from Yunshi for P11,000. Upon inspection, the buyer discovered that the phone was fake. She tried to contact Yunshi, but he did not respond, so she reported the incident to the authorities.

An entrapment operation was conducted, during which “Jess,” a friend of the victim, bought another smartphone from the suspect. They agreed to meet in front of Jaoville Compound, where the suspect was subsequently arrested. Documents have been prepared against the suspect.

Meanwhile, counterfeit products, including fake cellphones, are considered intellectual property rights infringements and are subject to legal consequences. The sale and distribution of counterfeit goods are prohibited under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 8293).

These laws aim to protect the rights of intellectual property owners and prevent the sale of counterfeit products that deceive consumers and undermine legitimate businesses. Offenders can face penalties such as fines and imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offense.
