Two Minors Die After Being Struck by Lightning in Cavite

Lightning kills 2 minors in Cavite

CAVITE – Two minors were killed after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in General Trias City.

The first victim was Xian Prangan, a 10-year-old from Barangay Pasong Camachile 2. According to the child’s mother, her son asked for permission to play with friends who were flying kites in the rice fields.

She said she forbade him from going out because it was raining, accompanied by thunder. However, she was unaware that her child still went outside. Shortly after, they heard screams from outside and were informed that some children had been struck by lightning.

The victim’s mother hurriedly went there and was shocked to see her son being carried by their neighbor, lifeless. Two of the victim’s playmates were also injured.

In Barangay San Francisco, a 16-year-old construction worker was also struck by lightning. According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the victim was gathering his belongings and was on his way back to the barracks when the incident occurred.

The victim was declared dead on arrival, while his companion sustained injuries. According to Executive Assistant Fernando Olimpo of the General Trias City Hall, this is an isolated case, and they were surprised that lightning struck individuals in two separate locations. They reminded the public to seek immediate shelter when there is such an occurrence.

Meanwhile, being directly hit by a powerful bolt is an extremely rare and dangerous event. When a person is struck by lightning, the electrical current from the lightning bolt passes through their body. The effects of a direct lightning strike can vary depending on several factors, including the intensity of the lightning bolt, the duration of contact, and the path the current takes through the body.
