After 2022 years, a Filipino mailman in Los Angeles has finally retired

His last day of work was on December 29, 2022. The send-off party, sponsored by the West Hills community, took place on January 8, 2023. In March 2023, his daughter, Annabelle Vives, organized a disco-themed retirement party for him.
Annabelle shared all these milestones on TikTok, which caught the attention of the public and led to the story of the 65-year-old Ilocano being featured on ABC 7 News in Los Angeles. In a video, Anthony expressed, “Okay, I’m done. This is it. I’m officially retired. Thank you, Lord. I’m done.” The video garnered 778,500 views, 169,800 heart reactions, and 6,676 comments as of posting.
Anthony hails from Batac, Ilocos Norte. He was the seventh of twelve siblings and grew up living with his cousins in Manila. While he didn’t finish his Radiologic Technology course, luck was on his side when he immigrated to America in 1981 after being petitioned by his older sibling. Anthony worked at a printing company for six years before joining the US Postal Service and becoming a mail carrier five years later.
Besides his own retirement, the former mailman is also looking forward to his wife’s retirement as a supervisor at Juvenile Court Health Services. Both of Anthony’s children have completed their nursing studies in the US. According to PEP.ph, their greatest desire is to travel, first and foremost, to the Philippines. They haven’t been back since 2004 and hope to explore their home country when the opportunity arises.
