Student Convicted for Throwing Eggs at King Charles

Student who threw eggs at King Charles last year, convicted

KING CHARLES III – A 23-year-old student named Patrick Thelwell has been found guilty of threatening behavior for throwing eggs at the reigning king of United Kingdom during a public appearance in York last year.

Thelwell claimed that he was responding to state violence and argued in court that his actions were lawful self-defense. However, Chief Magistrate Judge Paul Goldspring ruled that Thelwell intended to cause King Charles to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him.

Thelwell threw at least five eggs at the King and Queen Camilla, who were in York to unveil a statue of Queen Elizabeth II. Thelwell was also heard booing and shouting during the incident before being detained by police. As a result of his conviction, Thelwell has been sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community work.
