Masagana Falls in Palawan Becomes ‘Dugyot’ Due to Scattered Trash Left by Tourists

Scattered trash left by tourists makes Masagana Falls in Palawan look “dugyot”

MASAGANA FALLS – The popular tourist destination in Puerto Princesa, Palawan has become dirty or “dugyot” after some tourists who flocked there during the long weekend left some trash.

Masagana Falls, located in Barangay Irawan in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, is a popular tourist destination known for its natural beauty and pristine waters. However, recent photos shared on social media by Amador Lagrosa Jr. have revealed a disappointing sight of trash scattered around the falls, earning it the label of being “dirty” or “dugyot”.

The barangay officials suspect that the visitors who flocked to the falls during the recent long weekend are responsible for the litter. Visiting Masagana Falls has been free for anyone to enjoy, but it seems that not all visitors are mindful of keeping the place clean.

Captain Noel Resuma clarified that there is no permanent guard stationed at the falls, but there are signs reminding visitors to properly dispose of their trash. Unfortunately, some people remove these signs, contributing to the litter problem. Captain Resuma appealed to the public to be responsible and conscientious in bringing and disposing of their trash, and to prioritize environmental preservation over mere enjoyment. In response to the situation, barangay personnel will be visiting Masagana Falls to clean up the trash and restore its natural beauty.

The issue of littering and improper waste disposal is not unique to Masagana Falls or Puerto Princesa, but is a pervasive problem in many tourist destinations around the world. Irresponsible tourism practices, lack of proper waste management infrastructure, and a lack of awareness about the importance of environmental conservation contribute to the degradation of natural sites.
