DOJ Secretary Remulla Speaks on Degamo Case amid Investigations

DEGAMO CASE – Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla said that the case of the death of the Negros Oriental Governor is 99% solved.

The national government assured the family of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and the families of the other victims of the attack last March 4 that their passing will be given justice. Men wearing pixelated uniform attacked the compound of the Governor in Pamplona last March 4.

The suspects stormed in the gate of the Governor’s compound and lodged their motive without sparing the other people who were there. The Governor’s ally and several civilians died from the attack.

Gov. Degamo was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive the incident. His wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, called for justice from the national government over the death of the Governor.

Three (3) suspects were arrested by the authorities on the same day of the incident. Several suspects were nabbed in the days after and they went through interviews with the authorities.

Recently, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla spoke on the investigation of the Degamo case. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Justice Secretary said that the case is “99 percent solved”.

According to Remulla, there is a breakthrough and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently arrested an alleged mastermind behind the Degamo case. The authorities look into the possibility that there are 2-3 masterminds behind the plot.

Justice Sec. Remulla did not name the alleged mastermind in the Degamo case that was recently arrested by the authorities. Based on the report, the alleged main player in the plot was nabbed outside Negros already.

Among the persons implicated in the case are Degamo’s political rivals – former Negros Oriental Gov. Pryde Henry Teves and Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves. The latter has yet to return to the country and face the accusations after one (1) of the suspects pinned him down as the alleged mastermind behind the plot.
