Two days before his graduation, a Criminology student died due to Leptospirosis
DENIEL DAVE COMAMAO – A student who just finished a Bachelor of Science in Criminology degree has died, two days before his graduation due to leptospirosis.
The recent graduation ceremony at UM Tagum College, which was meant to be a joyous occasion for Deniel Dave and his family, turned into a somber affair as he was unable to walk across the stage to receive his diploma. Deniel tragically passed away on April 12, 2023, due to leptospirosis, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.
Deniel was remembered as a good son and a good person by those who knew him well. Despite the grief and pain his family felt, they also recognized the achievement he had worked so hard for during his time at UM Tagum College. His perseverance had paid off, and he had successfully completed his studies to graduate. However, as his mother expressed, “Nahuman siya pero wala naman siya.” He had achieved his goal of graduating, but he was no longer there to celebrate it with them, leaving behind a sudden and unexpected goodbye.
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances, Deniel’s parents continue to remember and love their son. His graduation day, though bittersweet, was a testament to the hard work and resilience he had shown, as well as the strength of his family in facing the reality of his untimely death.
In honor of Deniel’s academic achievements and as an expression of deep sympathy to his bereaved family, UM Tagum College took a moment during the graduation ceremony to honor Deniel’s memory. His absence was acknowledged, and his accomplishments were recognized by the university and his fellow graduates.
