Valentine’s Day is a holiday held every year to honor romantic love, friendship, and adoration. People send messages of love and affection to partners, family, and friends on February 14th to commemorate this day. To celebrate their love for one another, couples give Valentine’s Day cards, flowers, and spend special time together.

However, some Filipinos are eschewing the customary bouquet of flowers in favor of something more unusual, like a bouquet of chicharon bulaklak or veggies. In fact, veteran broadcast journalist Arnold Clavio gave a bouquet of “onions” to wife which he tagged as the “most expensive bouquet.”

Recently, he went to social media platform, Instagram wherein he posted a greeting to his wife: “Happy ’s Day Mamu … And you deserve the most expensive bouquet on this special day,” he noted.

Additionally, he shared a Valentine’s Day greeting with his Instagram followers, which featured him in an all-red outfit.

Meanwhile, a crucial component in Filipino cuisine, along with garlic, is the onion. Consumers were particularly hard-hit by the price increase during the year-end holidays, when food was a major focus of many gatherings. This led to many people venting their frustrations on social media.

Based on the retail prices of farm commodities tracked by the Department of Agricuture (DA) as of February 2, 2023, red onions were selling from 240 pesos to 310 pesos per kilogram, while the white variety was priced at 160 pesos to 260 pesos.
