A father in China identified as Ouyang, from Shenzhen, Guangdong, was praised by netizens for his parenting approach. The Chinese dad taught his three-year-old son about the importance of owning up and being responsible for one’s mistakes.

Ouyang’s son and another boy were playing outside. In the CCTV footage, they can be seen running next to two parked expensive cars while they scratch them with their plastic toy guns.

When the owner of the cars found out what the children did, he reached out to Ouyang explaining how much damage was done. Although Ouyang argued that the two children were still innocent and did not know the negative consequences of what they did, he acknowledged that they were guilty.

Instead of physically scolding him, he told his son to apologize and pay 2,000 yuan (PHP15508.64) as compensation for the scratches he had done to the luxury cars. He noted that his son will definitely learn from his mistake and that mistakes carry a corresponding responsibility even if he doesn’t know yet how much the cost is.

Ouyang’s decision to teach his son to own up to his mistakes drew praise on mainland social media. Many of his countrymen agreed that instead of being angry or physically punishing children, calmly teaching and guiding them to learn from their mistakes is a more effective way.
