Sunblock is life! Sara Duterte stops her speech after being hit by sunlight in the face
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President and Education Secretary made the rounds on social media after her speech was cut short when the sunlight hit her in the face.
Sara Vicenta Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio, the 15th and current Vice President of the Philippines, is a lawyer and politician. She is the country’s third female vice president, the third from Mindanao, and the youngest vice president in Philippine history.
Duterte ran for vice president in 2022 under Lakas-CMD, becoming Bongbong Marcos’ running mate under the UniTeam Alliance. Their ticket won by a landslide, making them the first running mate pair to win together since 2004 and the first to be elected by a majority since the Fifth Republic’s establishment in 1986. Duterte was inaugurated as vice president on June 30, 2022, in Davao City.
The daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte is also the Secretary of the Department of Education, a position he holds concurrently. She previously served as mayor of Davao City from 2016 to 2022 and from 2010 to 2013. She was also the vice mayor of Davao City from 2007 to 2010.
The Vice President and Education Secretary is making rounds on social media after her speech was cut short when the sunlight hit her in the face. It happened on Wednesday, November 16, during DepEd Tarlac’s 120th founding anniversary thanksgiving and awarding ceremony.
She was speaking on the side of the stage when the sunlight hit her in the face. “Sorry… I’m sorry, excuse me… hindi ako naglagay ng sunblock,” she quipped.
Her joke drew laughter from the audience. After a while, she resumed speaking from the podium, which was already in the center of the stage.
