Canlas started as a beautician in the Philippines.

She was only 12 years old when she started studying cosmetology in Olongapo City.

With hopes to have a better life, she decided to work abroad, as a stylist in Hong Kong.

Eventually, she went to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) wherein she worked as a stylist and beautician.

“Karamihan sa mga customers namin doon ay mga VIPs, mga sheiks na tinatawag,” she said.

She also experienced being a private hairdresser to members of the royal family there.

It was in 2012 when she went to Norway as a tourist.

After a year, she returned to Norway and got married to a Norwegian.

In Norway, she experienced difficulties in life.

“Kasi nung pumunta ako rito may edad na ako, and, pangalawa, yung language. Kasi ang mga nagtatrabaho rito fluent na doon sa language.” she said.

With the experiences she gained from working abroad, she was able slowly become successful and was able to establish her own business.

Presently, she has three branches of a salon in Haslum, Trondheim City, and Oslo.

In order to help her fellow Filipinos, she plans to hire Filipino hairdressers.

Aside from determination and strategy, Dolores has another piece of advice when it comes to making dreams come true.

“Just believe in yourself. [Just think] ‘I Can do it!'” she said.
