In March 2020, during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the wife of Sen. Koko Pimentel, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, gave birth to their eldest daughter. Then, the couple was surrounded with issues and earned negative criticisms after the Senator accompanied his wife to the hospital even when he was yet to finish his 14-day quarantine as per reports.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during the recent plenary deliberations in the Senate, Sen. Koko Pimentel expressed his claim that PGH refused to accommodate his then pregnant wife. According to him, PGH director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi assured him that he can bring his wife to the hospital for her delivery. Then, they also wanted to transfer Kathryna from a private hospital where they had an issue.

However, according to the Senator, they were exchanging messages on text and Viber when Legaspi suddenly did not respond anymore. Based on the report, the lawmaker also claimed that there was also no ambulance that fetched his wife.

“Hanggang ngayon I have not received the response from March 2020 Viber or text message… Kung kaya nila gawin sa senador ‘yan, paano kung hindi senador?” he said.

Reportedly, Sen. Pimentel also recalled the news he received that a pregnant woman was about to give birth but she died after PGH allegedly refused to accommodate her. Legaspi defended that there was no incident when a pregnant woman died because the hospital refused to accommodate her.

Furthermore, the PGH Director also said that he responded to the messages of the Senator and they might have stopped talking after an ob-gyne was contacted. He stressed that the hospital has no intention put his wife and their child’s lives at risk.
