Esquire’s selection of Eraserheads as “Artist of the Year” sparks discussion

ERASERHEADS – The alternative rock band elicited comments after being named as “Artist of the Year” by Esquire Philippines.

Eraserheads is a Filipino alternative rock band formed in 1989 composed of Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raimund Marasigan. Dubbed as “The Beatles of the Philippines”, the band became one of the most influential and successful in the history of Filipino music.

The Eraserheads disbanded in 2002. The group is the behind the hit songs “Ang Huling El Bimbo“, “With a Smile”, “Pare ko”, “Ligaya” and to name a few.

The group is currently gearing up for their upcoming reunion concert titled: “Ang Huling El Bimbo” which will be held at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque City this coming December 22, 2022.

This will be the Eraserheads’ first performance since their 2008 reunion concert, which was cut short due to frontman Ely suffering a heart attack. They eventually returned to finish the show.

Ahead of their concert, the band has been named by Esquire Philippines as Artist of the Year.

According to the popular magazine, “Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro, and Buddy Zabala’s songs capture the zeitgeist of Filipino youth culture. And their legend has only grown bigger and louder over time. The Ang Huling El Bimbo reunion concert is the guys’ final act. With it, we remember the band’s unparalleled cultural capital.”
