Meta is a multinational technology conglomerate based in Menlo Park, California. The company owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, among other products and services.

Earlier, the company laid off 13% of its workforce (11,000 employees). The massive layoff is the result of the drop in revenue of Meta. According to some analysts, aside from the rise of rival platforms under Meta, the company over-hired employees amid the pandemic.

In a letter to employees, Meta chairman, and chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg said: “We’ve shifted more of our resources onto a smaller number of high priority growth areas — like our AI discovery engine, our ads and business platforms, and our long-term vision for the metaverse.”

Among those who lost their jobs in the massive layoff is a certain Himanshu V. On social media, he shared that after two days of working at Meta, he found out he doesn’t have a job under the parent company of Facebook anymore.

Himanshu is an IIT-Kharagpur graduate and has already worked in other I.T. service management companies like GitHub, Adobe, and Flipkart.

After posting what happened to him on social media, many could not believe it. There were some who gave him leads for job opportunities as well as share links to companies hiring software engineers.

The fired employees will receive 16 weeks of their base pay, and two additional weeks for every year of service. Meta will still cover their healthcare expenses for six months.
