Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead on Monday evening, October 3, in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City.

Lapid was a columnist for Hataw and the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242.

He was known for his furious commentaries on different happenings in the country, especially in politics.

Lapid was on his way to work for his online broadcast program “Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242 when he was shot several times at the gate of BF Resort Village at around 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the gunman who killed the veteran journalist has finally surrendered to the authorities.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos announced the surrender of the suspect.

The primary suspect in the killing of Percy Lapid was identified as Joel Estorial, a resident of Quezon City. He’s now under the custody of the PNP.

In a press conference, Abalos revealed that there were three other individuals who were behind the killing.

One is alias Orly/Orlando and the two are siblings; Edmon Dimaculangan and Israel Dimaculangan.

Abalos denied that Estorial is a fall guy.

“Hindi niya lang inamin, because the gun itself would match the slug. Nag-match ‘yung ballistics. Number two, ‘yung mga damit na pinagpunit-punit niya. Number three, ‘yan po ang nasa CCTV,” the DILG chief said.
