Camilo Pancratius “Pikoy” Pascua Cascolan is a retired law enforcement officer who served as the 24th Chief of the PNP.

He was the first Cordilleran to lead the country’s national police force.

He has served the PNP for 28 years. Prior to that, he served the Philippine Constabulary for five years.

It was just recently when he was appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as one of the undersecretaries of DOH.

His appointment was confirmed by the health department on October 23, 2022.

Apparently, there were some who questioned his appointment.

This prompted Deputy City Prosecutor Darwin Cañete to defend his appointment against the critics.

According to Cañete, Cascolan is qualified for the said position.

Ngunit ayon kay Cañete ay pasok sa kwalipikasyon si Cascolan sa nasabing posisyon.

“Usec Cascolan will be running an administrative office. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He ran an entire organization called the PNP. The Usec of the DOH is not expected to perform surgery. So bakit duktor hinahanap niyo?” ani Canete.

Meanwhile, Cascolan said that one doesn’t need to be a doctor to serve the health department.

“I’m not a doctor but one doesn’t need to be a doctor to be assigned in DOH. Administration and management will always be a part of every department in government and I believe I will be of big help in this area. What’s important is the government’s program is implemented with the directive of the OIC Sec. DOH,” he said.

Malacañang Palace has yet to issue any statement regarding the criticisms that Cascolan is receiving following his appointment.
