Korean Air Plane Suffers Bad Landing at Cebu Airport

KOREAN AIR PLANE – An airplane of the Korean Air carrying 173 people overshot the runway of the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Accidents during landing has happened several times in airports across the globe. Usually, these incidents are triggered by different factors including bad weather condition and technical problems on the part of the aircraft.

Recently, another similar incident took place at Mactan Cebu International Airport. It is one of the busiest airports in the Philippines next to Ninoy Aquino International Airport or more commonly called NAIA in Metro Manila.

A Korean Air plane overrun the runway of Mactan Cebu International Airport during its landing. The aircraft was carrying 173 people including 162 passengers and 11 crew members.

Based on an article on AP, the Airbus A330 was from Incheon, South Korea. Korean Air Lines Co. said in a statement that the aircraft attempted to land twice before it overshot the runway at Mactan Cebu International Airport.

According to the report, all the plane passengers were evacuated on the aircraft’s escape slides. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said that all passengers of the Korean Air plane that overshot the Cebu airport runway are safe and were attended by the ground personnel.

The photo released showed the damage on the front underbelly of the aircraft. The airline is still investigating to determine the reason behind the accident. The Philippine aviation agency said that the airport is indefinitely closed now due to the stalled plane. At least four (4) incoming flights were diverted to Manila and an airport nearest to Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Other reports state that bad weather was cited as the reason behind the bad landing of the Korean Air plane. More updates may be posted soon.
