In a statement, Brigadier General Leoncio A. Cirunay Jr., a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the incumbent president of the Reserve Officers Legion of the Philippines, said that their group is condemning the senator’s declaration of support to the Communist Party of the Philippines, New People’s Army and National Democratic Front.

This was after Sen. Loren Legarda admitted in a privilege speech that she once worked with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

However, according to Cirunay, they felt very sad and deeply cheated by the pronouncement of the senator.

Cirunay said that they even voted for her in the recent election because of one reason, she’s a member of the reservist corps with a rank of a full-pledge colonel at the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

He then called on the members of the Reserve Officers Legion of the Philippines to disown her from the reservist corps.

He also requested the Department of National Defense (DND) to recommend the decommissioning of Senator Loren Legarda from the reservist corps of the AFP.

Meanwhile, the senator has made a clarification about her earlier statement on the so-called lefts.

The senator said that she’s also condemning all forms of violence and terrorism, and is calling for an end to armed conflict.

She stressed that she’s in favor of peace talks between the terrorist groups and the government.

“I am in favor of peace talks that are built upon a genuine desire to come to an agreement, which are within our democratic framework and in accordance with all our laws,” she said.

Sen. Loren Legarda maintained that she’s still supporting the AFP as a reserve officer.
