According to Department Order (DO) No. 37 Series of 2022, signed by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, schools cannot be used as permanent residences for disaster-affected families or individuals.

327 schools have been used as evacuation centers, with 259 of them still in use, as of posting.

Earlier, DepEd announced that it needs up to 112 million in funds to repair schools damaged by Typhoon Karding.

Meanwhile, the country was battered by Typhoon Karding in recent days.

Eight (8) have been reported dead while three (3) are still missing according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Five of them were the Bulacan hero rescuers who died after being swept away by a flash flood in the area wherein they responded while two were from Zambales and the other was from Quezon.

The agricultural damage brought by the typhoon has reached 1.3 billion pesos.

On the other hand, at the height of Typhoon Karding, 52,000 persons have been displaced.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos assured typhoon survivors that assistance is on its way.

According to the president, cash may not be very useful to the survivors right now, so their immediate needs will be met first.

He also stated that the national government will provide “Assistance to Individuals/Families in Crisis Situations,” or AICS, as needed.
