The President also praised local government units for communicating with residents about what needed to be done during this disaster.

When it comes to disaster preparations, there is no such thing as “overkill,” according to Marcos, because it is better to over-prepare for its effects.

He added that the government would only “stand down” from dealing with the situation once “the majority of the evacuees are already back home.”

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Karding affected 643 people or 164 families in 28 barangays in Cagayan, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Cordillera.

It added that 590 people, or 147 families, were staying in 34 evacuation centers, while 53 people, or 13 families, were staying outside of evacuation centers.

A police incident report cited that five rescuers were killed in a flash flood in Barangay Camias in San Miguel, Bulacan, following the onslaught of Karding on Sunday evening.
