PUERTO GALERA – A body of a man was found inside a sack in the famous beach destination in Oriental Mindoro.

The sack was discovered adrift in Sitio Maniknik in Barangay Balatero over the weekend.

The man, who was only sporting a pair of brown cargo shorts when he was found, is yet to be identified by the authorities.

According to Regional Forensic Unit 4B, there was no tape or obvious wounds on the body. The cause of death was asphyxia consistent with drowning.

The body may have been floating for four to seven days, according to the Puerto Galera Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office.

The local police are currently working with other provinces to identify the victim after the body had been examined by the Mindoro forensic unit.

The Puerto Galera MPS is carrying out follow-up operations regarding the case of the man found inside the sack. The Regional Forensic Unity has already received the DNA from the police for confirmation or identification of the victim.

The Mindoro police, for their part, denounced the incident and invited the public to relay any information that could assist the investigation.
