An air gun or airgun is a gun that fires projectiles pneumatically using compressed air or other mechanically pressurized gases without involving any chemical reactions.

Air guns are available in both long gun (air rifle) and handgun (air pistol) configurations. Both types typically propel metallic projectiles, which are diabolo-shaped pellets or spherical shots known as BBs.

Air guns were invented in the 16th century and have since been used for hunting, shooting sports, and even warfare.

The victim is scheduled to undergo surgery because the pellet that hit him has lodged in his head.
