After her involvement in the killing of a Florida university professor in 2014, a Pinay gets 110 years in prison
FLORIDA – A Filipina was sentenced to more than 100 years in jail for her involvement in the killing of a university professor in the said state in the United States.
It was in 2014 when Dan Markel, a university professor at Florida State University, was killed.
Markel was a Canadian-born attorney and a law professor, who wrote important works on retribution in criminal law and sentencing, with a focus on the role of punishment in the criminal justice system.
He earned a J.D. degree from Harvard in 2001 and after working briefly as a law clerk and junior associate at a law firm. He later joined the faculty of Florida State University.
He was killed by the gunman identified as Sigfredo Garcia.
Accordingly, the mastermind behind the shooting is his former brother-in-law named is Charlie Adelson.
On the other hand, the Filipina who was also linked in the killing of Markel was identified as Katherine Magbanua.
Allegedly, Magbanue served as a middle man for Adelson and Garcia.
Based on the report in the New York Post, the killing is rooted in the divorce of Markel and Adelson’s sister named Wendi Adelson, a clinical law professor and child advocate also employed at Florida State University at the time. In short, it was motivated by child custody issues.
In the latest court decision, Magbanua was sentenced to 110 years in prison while the gunman gets life imprisonment. Adelson is still on trial.
Meanwhile, the camp of Magbanua said that they are going to appeal the verdict of the court.
