The Department of Science and Technology believed that the video sharing app can help more people understand science.

Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Information Group Head Mark Ivan Roblas said that the science department sees the challenge of translating research into something that’s more accessible to the public.

The challenge is to reach people where they are… One out of 3 Filipinos are on TikTok. We hope that in this partnership we would be able to share the different technologies that we have,” he said. “Kaya gumagamit tayo ng ganitong platform, sinusubukan natin maabot ang ating mamamayan through entertainment.

ABS-CBN News reported that DOST is looking for “TikTokerists” or Tiktok content creators who could boost interest in science and technology.

Based on a report, winners will be part of the “Pinoy Science pool of content creators” and would also meet experts who could help improve their skills. Interested participants may join until September 2022.

Paringit said that they urged researchers, scientists, science communication practitioners, and media and communications students to participate in this contest and to harness their skills in turning science concepts into an informative and entertaining manner.

Interested participants must be 18 years old and above, living in the Philippines, and have an active account on TikTok.

Video entries will be judged on their accuracy, creativity, visual appeal, delivery of scientific knowledge, and online impact. There will be a semi-final round before the DOST-PCIEERD picks the top 3 participants.
