DSWD has rolled out giving financial assistance to needy students or “students-in-crisis.”

Accordingly, each student may receive P1,000 for those in elementary, P2,000 for those in high school, P3,000 for those in senior high school, and P4,000 for those in college/vocational school.

On August 24, Sec. Erwin Tulfo said that he has no intention of relying on the teachers for the distribution of educational assistance because for him, they may favor their relatives.

Apparently, there were people who were disappointed in his statement, and among those was Dr. Ethel Pineda.

“Really, Mr. Secretary? You are accusing teachers of misdeeds? Ang husay mo mag-accuse agad. Nilibak mo pa. “Nakatira lang” saan? Social Welfare Secretary ka, ang tapang mong mang-alipusta ng pagkatao ng mga guro. Unacceptable behavior. Shame on you,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Erwin Tulfo doesn’t have any plans to apologize to teachers who were offended by his remarks, citing that the public doesn’t understand what he means.

Romel Lopez, the spokesperson of Tulfo, clarified that what the secretary meant is he doesn’t want to add workloads to the teachers.

“He (Tulfo) doesn’t want to add more to our teachers’ workload. That statement does not entail any insinuation about the supposed favoritism in students,” Lopez said.

The Department of Education (DepEd) headed by Vice President Sara Duterte has yet to issue any statement regarding the message of Tulfo.

  1. Secretary Tulfo might have been so direct but he is not entirely wrong. The school is where children are being molded to become the future of this country so it would be great if this kind of practice will be put to an end.

  4. For me i am not dissapointed to what secretary Erwin TULFO has uttered those teachers, most of them are corrupt. The intimation of good secretary were to abstain them from nepotism. The doctor has very poor mind to be antagonistic to, sec. Erwin TULFO.
