DARRYL YAP – The director of Maid in Malacañang was booed by his fellow filmmakers at the 18th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
Yap is considered one of the most popular directors in the country today.

The movie stars Cesar Montano as former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Diego Loyzaga as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Cristine Reyes as Senator Imee Marcos, and Ruffa Gutierrez as Imelda Romualdez Marcos and Ella Cruz as Irene Marcos.
While those who portrayed the role as house helpers of the Marcos family are Elizabeth Oropesa as Yaya Lucy, Beverly Salviejo as Yaya Biday, and Karla Estrada as Yaya Santa.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media wherein filmmakers can be seen expressing their dismay after Yap’s name appeared on the screen during the 18th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
In a Facebook post, Darryl Yap revealed that he has an entry on Cinemalaya which is why he’s considered part of the movie festival.
However, he cannot publicly promote it because of Maid in Malacañang.
Then, he addressed the viral video wherein he was allegedly booed by his fellow filmmakers.
“Sabi sa akin, nung lumabas daw ang name ko nag “boo” raw ang mga filmmakers na nasa bulwagan. Ano raw ang reaction ko… ito po: NOSI BALASI,” he said.
“Nosi Balasi” is the hit single of the Filipino rock band Sampaguita.
