GMA Network’s “24 Oras” reported on Friday that China and the Philippines are discussing four major areas of cooperation — agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and people-to-people ties.

We should work even more in new infrastructure area, like in telecommunication, AI (artificial intelligence) and all these kind of information technology,” Huang said.

Huang also met with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Secretary Ivan Uy to discuss cooperation on ICT. To recall, Uy earlier said that he would prioritize providing internet connectivity in the country, especially to communities living in far flung areas.

The Chinese envoy added that the maritime dispute between the two countries should be discussed in a proper and peaceful dialogue.

China earlier maintained its opposition to the 2016 arbitral ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) that rejected its sweeping claims to the South China Sea, saying that it “seriously violates international law.”

On Thursday, Huang alleged that “some outsiders” who are not from Asia are trying to sow discord between the Philippines and China to serve their own geopolitical interests.

In Asian culture, outsiders should promote peace and facilitate dialogue, not sow discord. However, some outsiders do not behave this way, but try every means to fan the flame and drive wedge,” he said in a statement.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said in a statement on the sixth anniversary of the Award that the ruling was “final” and “indisputable”.
