QC Councilor Says “Sincere Public Apology” From Darryl Yap and AiAi Delas Alas May Lift “Persona Non Grata” Status

QC Councilor: “Pag sincere naman ‘yung public apology, siguro the next city council can lift that.”

QC COUNCILOR — Quezon City District IV Councilor Ivy Lagman said that a “sincere public apology” from director Darryl Yap and actress AiAi Delas Alas may lift their “persona non grata” status.

Lagman filed the resolution declaring AiAi and Darryl “persona non grata” which the city council approved Tuesday. The said resolution asserted that AiAi and Darryl defaced Quezon City’s triangular seal in a video that was posted on Vincentiments Facebook page.

The malicious and unscrupulous defacing of the official seal of Quezon City ridiculed and casted dishonor to it, causing insult to the noble representation of the seal,” Lagman stressed.

“Persona non grata” is a Latin word that refers to someone who is not allowed from entering the jurisdiction of a particular locality.

She explained that a “sincere public apology” over a video that “defaced” the official seal of Quezon City may lift the “persona non grata” status of Darryl and AiAi. Lagman also noted that the current city council will end its term on June 30, 2022.

We just want an apology. And ‘pag sincere naman ‘yung public apology siguro the next city council can lift that,” Lagman told Inquirer over the phone on Wednesday, June 8. “Kung mag-apologize sila, sincerely apologize sila in public, sincere apology and public, eh baka po ma-lift ng city council ‘yung status ng persona non grata.

According to her, her resolution wouldn’t curtail the freedom of AiAi and Darryl to travel to the city because the legislative action was merely an official expression of the city council’s sentiment against the said video.

The actress-comedian is a talent of GMA Network, which is located in Quezon City.
