It was on May 5, 2020, when the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Solicitor General Jose Calida issued a cease-and-desist order to ABS-CBN.

On July 10, 2020, members of the House of Representatives, particularly the Committee on Legislative Franchises, voted 70–11 to deny the franchise application of ABS-CBN, citing several issues with the network’s franchise.

Earlier this year, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) granted frequencies previously used by ABS-CBN Corporation to several broadcasting companies.

This includes the Channel 2 frequency which was awarded to Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS), owned by billionaire and former senator, Manny Villar.

Aside from that, NTC also granted Channel 16, the analog channel in Mega Manila to AMBS.

Meanwhile, the TV network owned by Manny Villar has started its test broadcast.

The possible location of the transmitter might be in Antipolo, Wil Tower in Quezon City and Paragon Plaza in Mandaluyong where AMBS is situated.

The test broadcast is a sign that AMBS will soon start airing its programs via Channel 2.

Willie Revillame, a close friend of Villar, is said to be one of the key people who will lead the said station.

The programs of the Kapamilya Network currently air on TV5 and A2Z channels as well as online via Facebook, YouTube, and other streaming platforms.

ABS CBN and AMBS have not yet made a statement about their possible partnership.
