“Gutom ko kuya” Young Boy Reiterates While Lying Inside Refrigerator During Rescue Operation

“Gutom ko kuya,” a young boy reiterated during a rescue operation while lying inside of a refrigerator during landslide in Leyte.

The Facebook page Baybay City Fire Station – Northern Leyte has shared the photo of a young boy who has been rescued after Bagyong Agaton causes landslide in Baybay City, Leyte. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.

In the photo, it can be seen that the rescuers were carrying a refrigerator containing the little kid inside. The kid has been placed inside the fridge during rescue operation as rescuers searched for victims.

Baybay City fire station personnel SFO2 Romulo G. Mascarinas asked the kid several question and the young boy reiterates “Gutom ko kuya, Ako na lang. Wala na akong kasama.” Mascarinas said.

According to Juanito Orellano Jr., the boy’s guardian, a policeman found the wounded kid. The responders also placed the kid inside the refrigerator during the operation before taking him to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

“May nagsabi naman sa iba na may mga volunteer doon na pumunta na mga civilian, pati ‘yung mga second responder, nakita nila [ang bata], nilagay nila sa ref,” Orellano said.

The boy is currently recuperating at the hospital while his sibling passed away during the landslide. The kid’s other sibling also survived after holding into a plastic container during the tragedy.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, over 172 individuals died due to massive flooding and landslide triggered by Tropical Storm Agaton. The agency also reported that eight individuals are wounded while 110 others are still missing.
