Meet the new MMDA chairman
MMDA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Romando Artes as the new chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
According to the document issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, the appointment letter of Artes was signed on March 1.
On the other hand, MMDA Undersecretary Frisco San Juan Jr. was appointed as general manager concurrent to being the deputy chairman of the agency.
Former MMDA chief Benhur Abalos resigned last month to support the presidential bid of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
BBM is gearing up for the highest position in the government this coming May 9, 2022 election.
Together with his runningmate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, they will go against the tandem of; Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Doc Willie Ong, Senator Manny Pacquiao and Buhay partylist representative, Lito Atienza as well as Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
Artes is a lawyer and certified public accountant (CPA).
He first served as assistant general manager for finance and administration of MMDA in May 2017.
Then, he served as general manager in October 2021, and officer-in-charge in February 2022.
Artes had expressed his gratitude following his appointment as MMDA chair.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is a government agency under the Office of the President that is mandated to perform planning, monitoring, and coordinative functions, and in the process exercises regulatory and supervisory authority over the delivery of metro-wide services within Metro Manila without diminution of the autonomy of the local government units concerning purely local matters.
