Davao City declared Walden Bello “persona non grata”.
On Tuesday, Davao City declared vice-presidential candidate Walden Bello “persona non grata” after he claimed that the city is the “drug center of the South”.
Signed by City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the proposed resolution said that Walden’s “malicious tirades” discredit the efforts and commitment of the city government’s employees.
The said resolution also stated that Walden’s “persistent attacks” will debilitate the city’s economic recovery efforts, especially in promoting the city’s tourism and investment opportunities to the international and local scene and “ultimately affect Davao City’s reputable governance to the public in general”.
“As we condemn Walden Bello’s acts, we also vehemently declare that he is not welcome to enter the borders, and the entire territorial jurisdiction of Davao City,” the resolution read.

In response, Walden said that he is “unconcerned and unbothered” by the said resolution, which he called a decision made by “Davao elites”.
Walden said in a statement that he considered ordinary people in Davao City to be far more important than those “privileged few who have sold their souls to the Dutertes”.
He then repeated his call for Davao Mayor Sara Duterte to show up in election debates and to stop sending “lackeys” like the Davao City Council to “try to wash her dirty laundry”.
“To Davao City, I say, I shall return!” Walden said.
To recall, the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) believed that Bello is a “narco politician” after calling Davao City a “drug center of the South”.
“It can be said that Mr. Bello is a narco politician in a way that he withheld information crucial in the government’s anti-drug campaign,” HNP said in a statement on Monday.
