Michele Gumabao: “They are saying that we are representing mothers pero hindi naman kami nanay.”
MICHELE GUMABAO – The volleyball player who’s seeking a congressional seat in the coming election defended her non-motherhood status in representing a party list for mothers.
The volleyball star is joining the list of sports personalities seeking government posts in the 2022 national elections.
Last year, Michele together with Mocha Uson filed their certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) as they represent the “Mothers for Change” party list.
Apparently, her announcement to run under the said party list is still earning negative comments from the netizens.
In an interview, Michelle Gumabao defended her non-motherhood status in representing the party list for mothers.
She admitted that she and her running mate Mocha Uson were not mothers.
She then attempted to translate “Mothers for Change” to Filipino.
“When we say Mothers for Change, if you translate it to Tagalog, it says, ina ng pagbabago,” she said.
In the later part of her statement, she said there are other meanings or definitions of the word mother.
According to Oxford Dictionary, a mother is “a female parent; a woman who has given birth to a child.”
Before she decided to enter politics, Michele Gumabao already made a name for herself in the world of volleyball.
From 2012 to 2013, she was a co-captain of the De La Salle University women’s volleyball team, the Lady Spikers. She’s also the camp director of the Alaska Volleyball Powercamp.
Her last volleyball stint was via Creamline Cool Smashers in March 2018 for the Premier Volleyball League alongside Alyssa Valdez, Jia Morado, and her former college teammate, Mel Gohing. The team won its first PVL championship in the Reinforced Conference in July 2018.
Aside from volleyball, Michele Gumabao also ventured into the world pageantry. In 2018, she was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas Globe during the Binibining Pilipinas beauty contest.
