According to the incumbent Buhay party-list representative, the costly rehabilitation effort was not the right solution to the problem of Manila Bay.

Atienza made the statement during his interview on TeleRadydo.

Bakit may lason?

He stressed that the water surrounding the bay is neither safe for swimming.

He also cited that the dolomite project was a “waste of money” and that the government should not have spent money on the said project,

Lito Atienza suggests that in order to clean the water of Manila Bay, the two water concessionaires (Manila Water and Maynilad) must establish a wastewater treatment facility that will purify water before it goes to the bay.

Meanwhile, during the rehabilitation of the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach, different groups questioned the dumping of fake white sand on the shores of the bay with some saying it is a violation of heritage and environmental laws.

There were also groups questioning the timing of the rehabilitation as it was implemented while millions struggled with the crisis.

However, government officials continued to defend the project.
