Eleazar to rumor mongers: “Hindi na nga nakakatulong, nakakaperwisyo pa”
GUILLERMO ELEAZAR – The former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief slammed those who are spreading rumors of lockdown and martial law amid the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Apparently, there were rumors spreading on the internet as the country faces COVID-19 cases spike anew.
Among the rumors surfacing online is that there might be a lockdown and martial law due to the sudden increase of COVID-19 cases.
This prompted Eleazar, a retired PNP chief who’s now seeking a Senate seat, to react.
“Itong mga Maritess (rumormongerers) sa social media na nagpapakalat ng mga maling impormasyon tungkol sa COVID-19 ang dapat ma-i-lockdown. Hindi na nga nakakatulong, nakakaperwisyo pa… Dapat ipunin lahat ito at ilagay sa granular lockdown para sila-sila ang magtakutan at magbolahan,” he said.
According to him, spreading such rumors will only add to the public’s anxiety.
Later, he urged the PNP Anti-Cybercrime group to investigate and trace the source of the rumors.
Meanwhile, the country is being threatened by Omicron which is said to be the most transmissible coronavirus variant, so far, according to experts.
As of posting, there are 43 cases of the Omicron variant in the Philippines.
COVID-19 continues to spike in the country. In fact, there are 21,819 new COVID-19 cases in the country as of Friday, January 7, 2022.
On the other hand, 129 new deaths have been recorded, raising the total number of fatalities to 51,871 while 973 additional recoveries have been logged bringing the total of 2,781,424.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Philippines has confirmed over 2,910,664 COVID-19 cases. Currently, there are 77,369 active cases.
