RICO OSMEÑA – A radioman from Cebu City was shot past noon on December 16, 2021, by an unknown gunman along M.J. Cuenco Avenue while inside a jeepney.

According to Major Edgar Labe, chief of the Waterfront Police Station, the victim was onboard a modernized public utility jeepney when the suspect boarded the vehicle and shot him.

Apparently, a female passenger was hit by a stray bullet.

The radioman and the female passenger shot by a stray bullet, whose identity was not disclosed by the authorities, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Physicians attending the radioman and the female passenger have yet to divulge details with regards to their condition.

The “Karon Sugbo” commentator just came from the radio station, dyLA, where he hosts the said program.

Prior to the attack, he announced earlier that he received threats from someone. However, he refused to reveal the identity of that person.

Osmeña, who was also a correspondent of the Daily Tribune, had reported the matter to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The authorities have already launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the crime and most especially to identify the identity of the assailant.

Such an incident is considered oppression to the members of the press.

Previously, a journalist named Jesus Malabanan was shot in the head while watching TV in his home in Calbayog.

Malabanan was a longtime journalist who reported for Bandera, The Manila Times, and The Manila Standard.

He also helped produce Reuters’ coverage of Duterte’s “drug war” which won a Pulitzer Prize.
