The President made the statement as Filipinos joined caravans of different political candidates for the 2022 elections amidst the government’s efforts to keep the Omicron variant out of the Philippines.

President Duterte said in his pre-recorded “Talk to the People” public address on Monday evening that it’s a good thing that many Filipinos were vaccinated but political candidates shouldn’t push their luck.

The President called on the poll body to do something about it.

I’d like to call the attention of Comelec. You are the ones supervising the elections. As a matter of fact, you are the one running the show. Could you not just issue a– i-maintain lang ang social distance,” President Duterte said.

According to President Duterte, he didn’t care if people would gather in one place as long as they kept their distance from one another, reminding the public that the Philippines wasn’t safe from COVID-19 yet.

The President also said that it would be better if the public will wait for the recommendation of health experts that it’s already safe to go out.

Despite this, the President was hopeful that Filipinos will get to enjoy a better Christmas this year.

Ipagpatuloy lang natin ang ibayong pag-ingat laban sa virus at palagi nating sundin ang minimum public health standard at health protocols sa lahat ng pagkakataon sa lahat ng oras,” President Duterte said.
