It was just recently when Odette, the 15th tropical cyclone for 2021, devastated various parts of the country particularly in the Visayas such as in Bohol, Negros, Cebu, Siargao and to name a few.

The typhoon left 14 casualties as of posting. It is estimated that the damage left is worth millions.

Whenever there is a disaster happening across the country, big media entities tend to give updates and one of which is ABS-CBN.

However, due to its limited viewership since the shutdown, many were not able to receive updates about the typhoon as they consider the Kapamilya Network one of the in-demand news presenters during disasters, especially on free TV.

This prompted OPM legend Jim Paredes to recall those times ABS-CBN deliver news about disasters such as typhoons during the era it has still a franchise.

He also said that politicians who voted to shut down the network should be ashamed of themselves.

“We really miss the reach of ABS-CBN. The politicians who voted to not renew the franchise should be ashamed. A Presidential candidate was one of them,” he said.

A netizen responded and said that there are other channels and radios that can also give information and updates about the typhoon.

To recall, it was on May 5, 2020, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Solicitor General Jose Calida issued a cease-and-desist to ABS-CBN.

On July 10, 2020, members of the House of Representatives, particularly the Committee on Legislative Franchises, voted 70–11 to deny the franchise application of ABS-CBN, citing several issues on the network’s franchise.
