Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia Goes around Towns in Province
Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia spoke on the deaths in the province amid the wrath of Typhoon Odette that caused the loss of lives and damages.
Recently, a strong typhoon hit the Philippines and cause massive flooding in several areas. Typhoon Odette or international called Typhoon Rai brought not only heavy downpours in some areas in the country but as well as strong winds.
A lot of people lost their houses to the wrath of Typhoon Odette. Their homes were either damaged by the massive flooding or destroyed by the strong winds. Some houses were destroyed by trees that broke or were uprooted from the ground.
Many people also lost their lives to the onslaught of the typhoon. One of these areas in the Philippines is the province of Cebu.
Deaths were recorded in Cebu due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia went around the towns affected by the typhoon.
According to the Cebu Governor, she went around 18 towns and her death count is less than 50. She stressed that they are still trying to get an accurate count of the death toll due to Typhoon Odette.
Based on the report, most of the victims were inside their houses when trees fell in their homes. Preemptive evacuations were conducted by the authorities prior to the calamity due to flooding and landslide risks.
Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia said that Odette also left “massive infrastructure damage, both public and private”. The province is composed of 44 municipalities and 6 component cities. It is home to over 3.2 million people. The Governor stressed that about 80% of the towns and cities in the province got their infrastructures affected by Odette. She tagged the damages as “very, very serious”.
