In a video message posted on her Facebook page, Mayor Sara said that running for vice president in the 2022 elections was an opportunity to meet her supporters halfway.

According to her, she had decided not to run for the top post but was met with the “relentless call” for her to run in the 2022 elections.

I have thousands of supporters who cried last October 8. And I cannot find it in my heart to make them cry again on November 15. After the deadline, the offer to run for vice president became an opportunity to meet you halfway,” Mayor Sara said.

Mayor Sara’s decision to run for vice president came after months of clamor – from her supporters, political allies, and even President Rodrigo Duterte – for her to run for president.

The incumbent Davao City mayor also dismissed the chaos at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) headquarters, on social media, and in political circles as mere “politics [that] will not matter in the years to come”.

Mayor Sara appealed to her supporters to stay calm as the problems of PDP-Laban were their own.

Let us be circumspect and stay the course. Focus on forging relationships to unite for the good of our country,” Mayor Sara said.

Moreover, Mayor Sara said that it’s a path that would allow her to heed her supporters’ call to serve the Philippines and to make her a stronger person and public servant in the years that lie ahead.

Mayor Sara filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice president as a substitute candidate under Lakas-CMD last November 13.

She had said in the past that she wanted to finish 3 consecutive terms as Davao City mayor, but she made it clear that she had no intention of joining PDP-Laban or of being its standard-bearer even as she reimagined vague about her desire to seek a national position then.
