Atienza made the statement after President Duterte said last week that a presidential aspirant can be a “weak leader”.

It is clear that President Duterte was referring to Bongbong Marcos. I am never convinced Bongbong will be a strong leader,” Atienza said during a virtual press conference in Quezon City.

Atienza, who was also Buhay Partylist representative, said that he expected Filipinos to become more discerning as soon the presidential debates started, saying that President Duterte’s description of the former senator will then be fully validated.

He also predicted that Bongbong’s popularity will wane as soon as public debates started to unfold and Filipinos finally realized the truth about Bongbong’s candidacy.

People will then be guided clearly than being blinded by money and power,” Atienza said.

Atienza, however, believed that the poor among Filipinos will support his presidential candidate, incumbent Senator Manny Pacquiao, for his brand of sincerity, integrity, and intelligence as a leader.

Like many people, the vice-presidential aspirant told a news forum in Quezon City that he’s equally pleasantly surprised that the President has started to air serious misgivings over the candidacy of Marcos, saying that he thought President Duterte would support the former senator.

Ang lumabas sa sinabi ni Duterte ay hindi magiging mabuting pangulo iyan,” Atienza said in response to a question raised by a reporter.

When asked to give his impression of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Atienza said that he believed President Duterte’s choice for president was a “good man” but made the wrong decision in seeking the presidency in the 2022 elections.

Atienza said that this may not be the best time for Go to win the elections, noting that it’s too early for Go to run for president being a first termer in the Senate.
