The former senator will run for the highest position in the government in the 2022 elections. He will go against presidential aspirants; Vice President Leni Robredo, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, senators Manny Pacquiao, Ping Lacson and Bato dela Rosa.

Many are opposing his candidacy and among those is former Manila Mayor and incumbent Buhay Party-list Representative, Lito Atienza.

In a statement, he said Bongbong Marcos must first apologize for what happened during Martial Law before he ran for president.

It was on September 21, 1972, when late president, dictator Ferdinand Marcos placed the Philippines under Martial Law.

During Martial Law, Lito Atienza was arrested twice for exposing human rights abuses under the dictatorship regime of Marcos at that time. He remained with the opposition even if he was on a constant threat of incarceration for opposing Marcos.

Watch his interview in the video provided below:

“Humingi muna ng dispensa. Paumanhin itong si Senador Bongbong bago siya kumandidato sa pagka-pangulo. Otherwise, why should we even forget and forgive when you are not saying ‘I’m sorry’,” he said.

Lito Atienza made the statement following the remarks of presidential running mate Manny Pacquiao against Marcoses.

Earlier, the boxer-turned-politician said that the Marcos family should return their ill-gotten wealth and apologize for abuses during the presidency of their late patriarch.

Bongbong Marcos has yet to issue any statement regarding the remarks of Lito Atienza and Manny Pacquiao.
