Roque said during the Presidential press briefing Friday that karaoke bars in areas placed under Alert Level 2 were allowed to operate at 50% capacity for fully vaccinated customers, adding that employees and workers of those establishments have to be vaccinated as well.

For him, it would be better for karaoke bar-goers to still wear their face masks while singing in order to minimize the risks of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

According to the Palace spokesman, the government decided to allow videoke bars to operate after more than a year in order to help business owners and to further revive the economy as well.

Roque also said that the decreasing number of coronavirus cases was another factor that affected the government’s decision to ease restrictions in the country. This, however, can change with one misstep.

Mababa nga po ang mga kaso ng COVID, pero any time nga po pwedeng umakyat ‘yan knowing na meron pa nga ngayong mas matinding makahawang mga variant,” Roque said.

Roque’s statement came as Malacañang announced on Thursday night that Metro Manila will be placed under Alert Level 2 from November 5 to 21.

Based on Alert Level 2 guidelines, businesses were allowed to operate at 50% indoor capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those below 18 years old even if they’re unvaccinated. Businesses were likewise allowed to operate at 70% venue capacity.
