Harry Roque clarified that he wasn’t making a confirmation that he will run for senator in the 2022 elections.
HARRY ROQUE — The Presidential spokesperson clarified that he wasn’t making a confirmation that he will run for senator in the 2022 elections.
This, after he said that he has “found a resolve to actually run” for senator.
According to the Palace spokesman, he still needed to consult the matter with President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
“Everything is premature,” Roque said. “I’ll have to talk to both the President and Mayor Sara and I will explain to them my predicament because I thought what happened was unfair and I thought that I cannot sit idly by and let people being supported by these extremist groups be elected into the Senate.”
Roque’s statement came after he was asked anew for his political plans in the 2022 elections in an interview on ANC Thursday.
Previously, the Palace spokesman said that he will run for senator in the 2022 elections if Mayor Sara will run for the presidency.
However, the incident in the United States gave him a resolve to run for senator as he said that he didn’t want allies of “extremist” groups to be elected into office.
“Let’s just say that when I found out what the extremist group did, I found a resolve to actually run. Why? I don’t want to see their allies elected into office,” Roque told ANC.

The Palace spokesman was in New York for an official visit to the United Nations for the UN International Law week. He had been nominated by the Philippine government for a seat in the International Law Commission (ILC), a UN body.
According to Roque, he didn’t have to be “bullied” by those individuals and he’s open to stand for election in order to prove that other people supported him.
Meanwhile, Roque was asked in the 4th part of his “52 Q’s with Harry Roque” vlog on his YouTube channel if he will run for senator in the 2022 elections.
“Ipinagdarasal po natin na sana po mabigyan po tayo ng pagkakataon dahil nais nating ipagpatuloy ang nasimulan. Kung kinakilangang tumakbo muli, bakit hindi?” Roque said.
