Giant Banana in Asingan, Pangasinan Goes Viral Online
GIANT BANANA – A family in Asingan, Pangasinan got shocked after harvesting a giant banana from their front yard.
The Facebook page “PIO Asingan” has shared the photos of a giant banana in Asingan, Pangasinan, which has a length of around sixteen inches. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
A woman named Winnie Tarangco of barangay Cabalitian owns the plant that produces giant bananas. Tarangco got surprised and can’t believe the size of the banana she harvested from the tree.
“Gaya po ng nasa picture mahaba po talaga siya hanggang dito po sa braso ko po yun, mas mahaba pa hanggang dito sa siko ko. Ngayon lang po ako nakakita ng saging na ganyan , sinlaki ng apo ko kung tutususin” Tarangco said.
The lady owner also revealed that each banana is weighing from three to four kilograms. A single person could not consume the entire fruit throughout the day, according to Tarangco.
“Sa haba nga nito hindi ko kayang ubusin kung ako lang mag isa, hindi yan kagaya ng normal na saging natin na isang kainan lang. Yan talaga hindi mo kayang kainin sa isang araw na kakainan.” Nanay Winnie added.
The giant saging is popularly known as “tindok” or plantain, a breed of huge bananas that only bears fruit every 11 months.
Asingan town’s Municipal Agriculturist Ernesto Pascual explained that the giant fruit was not meant for commercial purposes but it grows like an ornamental plant. Tindok usually grows in tropical countries like Philippines and other parts of Asia, according to Pascual.
